Game Description
Resident Evil 5 for the Xbox 360 from Capcom, is the latest entry in the popular shuvival-horror franchise. In RE5, Chris Redfield heads to Africa where the latest bioterrorism threat is literally transforming the people and animals of the city into mindless, maddened creatures. Chris is joined by a new partner, Sheva Alomar, who lends her strength, intelligence, and sharp-shooting skills to the mission. In order to survive, Chris and Sheva must work together to take on the challenges of discovering the truth behind this evil plot. Utilizing a new co-op mode, players assume control of either Chris or Sheva and experience Resident Evil in new ways. In RE5 players fear the daylight as much as they have feared shadow in previous games.

Resident evil 5
This is a must have game for fans of the series it has all the things that made the series so great. The story is awesome and well told ( the end is okay i guess ), the combat is awesome, and co op is a blast with a friend. The only problems are the game is way to short ( only lasts about 8 hours ) and there's not enough content like weapons and the series changed from a horror game to an action game which is a little bit of a big step if u ask me and the game takes away from the horror because of your partner but u get to play with a friend so it's a fair trade off I highly recommend this game to fans of shooters and fans of the series

Great 3rd Person Shooter, Disappointing Resident Evil
I consider Resident Evil 4 to be the greatest game ever made and though I'm somewhat biased its hard to argue that it doesn't at least deserve a place in the top 10 games of all time. With such a fantastic predecessor how do you create a game that is worthy of being a direct sequel without disappointing the fans? The answer is surprisingly close to what Resident Evil 5 is: it has the fantastic genre defining gameplay that RE4 created and delivers a fun experience for the player and a friend. What holds it back from being a truly worthy successor however it that it misses a lot of what made RE4's atmosphere and story so engaging.
Resident Evil 5 assumes that what the player really wants is a heavy-handed script with poor writing, poor delivery and arguably the two stupidest lead characters in recent memory. In RE4 Leon figured out the whole plot by the middle of the second chapter, a mere 4 hours into a 20-30 hour long journey and it allowed the story to grow because you weren't waiting for the next trickle of useless information. In RE5, even at the end the characters don't seem to have a real grip on what happened during the course of the game. Another issue is that the game isn't even remotely frightening or tense. The game makes no attempt at any point to even try to be scary and it misses some obvious places where it could be creepy or horrifying.
The co-op is really the saving grace of this game and a reason that any action fan should pick this game up. When things blow up, they blow up BIG, and nothing is more fun than seeing it with a friend. The co-op is nearly perfect and just a joy to play, covering one another, laughing when you screw up, yelling when you REALLY screw up, its a blast and possibly even more fun than Gears. The single player is good, but it makes the terrible storytelling all the more prevalent. Another issue is the item management; its not that it's in real time as others have complained, its that its bad: guns take up as much space as an egg, and your vests (which you are wearing) also take up a space in the inventory, severely limiting you to what you can carry. This is especially noticeable on veteran and professional where wearing a vest (either bulletproof or a melee vest) is a must. You also can immediately use items, like herbs, if you are in need of one just by picking it up, it just says: FULL, so you can't see a First Aid Spray and just use it, you need to have a space available even if you intend on using it right away, very disappointing. These issues aren't big in co-op, as you have a friend protecting you while you think about what you drop and what to keep or mapping something new to the D-Pad but in single player its a pain, as Sheva can ignore your safety right up until you are killed (including the "Dying" phase).
Overall Resident Evil 5 is great, its story is lacking and does nothing for Resident Evil fans, it is also short on scares (as in, non-existent), but the level design and just high level of entertainment and fun make this a triple-A title deserving of you're time and money. Throw in the Mercenaries Bonus game (which, again, is better in co-op) and unlockables and you have a game high on replay value. Just one final oddity - the boss fights it this game, while still some of the best of this generation, are significantly worse and less interactive than in RE4, no real thought is required of the player (all the bosses have "shoot me here" spots) and for one fight, you are stuck in a vehicle that is stationary and are forced to fight a mobile and very strong boss. They aren't bad, just a step down; and in a game where everything feels like an (misguided) attempt to step up from RE4 its odd. Resident Evil 5 is a great 3rd person shooter that is also disappointing Resident Evil game, weird thing to say I know, but if you can look past its shortcomings in terms of the RE legacy you will find one of the top co-op games of all time.

What I've Come To Expect From RE
Resident Evil 5 is a lot like it's older siblings, but with a new landscape, new zombies, new weapons and new characters... okay so it is very different (in a good way). Still has the same concept though. Get a bunch of guns, shoot the f*ck out crazy living dead, make good strategies, and if you get hurt, turn to the magic herbs. I've gotta admit that concept has NEVER bored me and still doesn't. RE5 is a great 3rd person shooter, with a good campaign, fun online content, really intense action and insane boss fights. All of that plus a decent score and incredible graphics. What's not to love? Besides the sometimes irritating camera, and kind of annoying controls, nothing. - wuff

A good game ruined by a complete disregard for other games in the series.
Resident Evil 5 isn't that a bad. The game is fun to play, the controls are tight, and the graphics are good. However, to anyone who has played any of the previous entries in the series, this game is complete garbage. Not because the gameplay is completely different to the originals, so much so that the game is no longer recognizeable as Resident Evil, which it is, but because of the story.
The story in Resident Evil 5 is horribly developed. They introduce several plot points that they never explain, such as why Las Plagas have infected african locals, when the virus that you are attempting to destroy is completely unrelated.
The biggest problem with the story is that it simply doesn't fit in with the rest of the series. For example, Wesker, the villian in the game, was always a scientist interested in creating a virus himself. The last time he was in a game, he had kidnapped a main character, Steve Burnside, who was infected with a mutation of the T virus called the T-Veronica virus. This has been completely abandoned, and wesker now has the Uroboros virus, which isn't really a virus to begin with. There are little bits like that through the game that just don't add up, but i can excuse them.
However, in no less than three occasions, RE5 reveals information that is not only impossible, but goes counter to what the other games have already established. And, fair warning, i'm going to list them.
1. In RE5, you find out that the T virus evolved from the Progenator virus, which was discovered in a species of african flower, even though that the entire plot of Resident Evil Zero centered around how Marcus extracted the T virus from mutated Leeches.
2In RE5, you find out that the T virus was developed because the company's founder, Oswell E Spencer, wanted to have godlike super powers. But, Code Veronica already revealed that the Ashford family, the founders of umbrella, created the T virus in an attempt to create bio weapons for the military.
3. In RE5, you find out that Wesker has his super powers because he is the only surviving "Wesker Child," a group of super humans who were manufactured by umbrella. This one actually made me scream. It had been hinted in Code Veronica, and straight up revealed in the Umbrella Chronicles that wesker survived being skewered by the tyrant because he had injected himself with a mutated string of the T virus immidiately before he died. He was not always a super human, and in fact, worked for Umbrella along side william birkin to help perfect the T virus in the first place, as well as help birkin with creating the G virus. In fact, one could argue the fact that the entire Resident Evil series was possibly only due to wesker, as Wesker was the one who sent STARS to the mansion, the outbreak in racoon city had occured because Wesker sold out Birkin and wanted the G virus, and Code Veronica would never have happened had Wesker not betrayed Umbrella to work for another company. Which, of course, doesn't make an apperance in this game.
The game isn't bad. It's actually fun. But, I needed to focus on the story, because its completely broken. If the story had merely sucked, I'd have given it a 4 out of 5.
All in all, if you only played RE4, or if this is your first RE game, go ahead and get it. You'll have fun. If you've been a fan of the series for a long time, though, I'd say proceed with caution and keep expectations low. However, if you've been a fan of this series since the beginning like i have, do yourself a favor. I'm not suggesting you avoid this game, I'm begging you to avoid this game. Not because it's terrible, or because I'm trying to be radical. I'm completely honest in saying that this game entirely ruined the series for me. I've completely lost interest in the series, and even if RE6 revamps the series again, I doubt i'll still be interested.
Die hard fans, this game is not for you.
