He bought his ps3 back during the launch. It was the $500 model. Hes kind of a rabid sony fanboy but not as bad the usual short bus gang here on GP. He believed in the ps3s quality and got screwed over royaly.
So today he calls me when I got home from work and says hey my ps3 just YLODed on me. I had to fight back the burst of laughter, because he is my friend and I didnt want to seem ignorant and have him get pissy with me. He is a sony fanboy after all and he hated MS. So I went over to his house which is about 2 blocks from where I live. he told me he called sony and the warranty is up. Its no longer covered and he kept his reciepts and he tried to get them to repair it for free. In the end it will cost him $150 to get it fixed. It doesnt stay on long, maybe 20 minutes before it YLODs and freezes up. The ps3s rear feels very warm. As warm as my nephews 360 did before it crapped out on him.
So he asked me to ride upto gamestop. he said he wasnt paying sony again to fix it. He said he was going to cash it in and put the money on a 60 gig 360. He cashed in his games but he only had a few anyway. He had no BR movies at all. So I guess it wasnt much of a loss except for the system itself. He said he would never trust another sony system again. He also said what swayed his choice was that if the ps3 can brick like that then the 360s RRODs not such a big deal sense both systems have reliability issues.
Theres a valuable lesson to you all in this. No system is safe and the ps3 isnt immune from problems. A long time semi fanboy found this out today.
