Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (PSP)

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is the latest installment in the exciting and ever-expanding Star Wars mythos. The Force Unleashed offers an interesting take on traditional Star Wars storytelling by pitting the player in the Empire's Dark Times, where the sinister Emperor Palpatine orders the sinister Sith to rid the universe of all the Jedi.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is an incredibly original and rich experience, and may be the best handheld Star Wars game to date!

The Force Unleashed offers an interesting take on traditional Star Wars storytelling by pitting the player in the Empire's Dark Times, where the sinister Emperor Palpatine orders the sinister Sith to rid the universe of all Jedi.

The first thing I noticed about The Force Unleashed is that it's a very user-friendly game. From Darth Vader's infamous death grip to the new Force Repulse move, veteran players will have no problems mastering the game's control scheme, as it's very similar to past Star Wars games. Newcomers can use the tutorial levels to learn the basics, and to cause even less confusion in the midst of battle various items and set pieces come equipped with a blue force field, letting you know you can use your Force powers on them.

Using your Force powers to counter Jedi attacks can be tricky and frustrating due to the game's auto-targeting system, demanding quite a bit of attention to what object or enemy you've locked on to in combat. A number of times I threw an item into nothing but air or accidentally grabbed an item that I didn't intend to, thus creating an open attack for the Jedi to openly attack me. Persistence is the key to the boss battles, so find out what powers work for you and go with it!

As you battle enemies and destroy objects, you're granted Force points which can be used to upgrade Starkiller's Force powers and array of abilities. You can also modify the intensity of the lightsaber as well as its color by collecting and using unique color crystals acquired in combat. To me this gave the impression that Starkiller's powers were constantly growing throughout the game, making it a much more personal experience. Some battle scenes tend to be harder than others, as certain enemies are immune to specific Force powers, so remember to change up your moves instead of sticking with the same one or two slash attacks.

But what is Star Wars without its stellar sound effects? The familiar sounds of blasters and sabers are still the same, and there's even some exciting new sounds and fantastic new dialog from the game's cast of characters. I would have to say the graphics are the best yet for the Star Wars series on the PSP, but as most fans know, with LucasArts you tend to expect the best.

So explore your Dark Side. Make your decisions wisely, as they change the course of your destiny throughout the game, and in the words of Obi-Wan Kenobi, always remember: "Let the force be with you."

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (PSP)

PROS: Fun gameplay, deep customization
CONS: Troubling auto-locking system, tough boss battles

First.

I preordered this and love it. Don't really like the camera angles though and having to wait for them to change. And only being 9 missions long is kind of a drag but it does have multiplayer and duel-ing mode. So I think its worth the $40.

The missions are all pretty long; about 10 hours total. Plus it has bonus missions not in the other versions.

And you can just hit down on the D-pad to re-center the camera.

the game was good but the battle with the boses was tough and badly designed it should have more like as it is in tekken (battle with the boss) cause first u fight him and then u have to press these insane keys and if u make a mistake then u have to fight a little and then with the insane keys again and some bosses u cant use some force powers on
