Reggie promises online Wii community that's 'unique to Nintendo'

If and when a full-fledged Nintendo online community becomes available, it will be "unique to Nintendo," Reggie said.
While the Wii might not actually be gathering dust these days, its online effort is, with Friend Codes and spotty support from third parties being the major culprits. That could change however, as Nintendo head honcho Reggie Fils-Aime promised Tuesday that some kind of online community is coming soon from Nintendo.
In a column at Forbes, the outspoken Nintendo of America CEO said Nintendo has always had a vision for an online community.
"The issue is that we define community differently than our competitors... Our consumers do want a sense of community, and we're going to deliver that -- but in a way that's unique to Nintendo," he said.
As always, this is really just more amorphous hyperbole from a Nintendo executive. However, it does at least hint that something is in the works on the online front, possibly beyond the separate Friend Codes you pop into the system for each game.
But what? What could Nintendo offer that's unique, and differentiates them from Xbox Live or Sony Home?

I have yet to really use friends codes since I have yet to have friends who have the same games as me, though it is annoying having a different code for every game. When I play online, it's against random people I can't communicate with, and that's fine with me. I don't need to hear them acting like an idiot with trash talking and other stupidities everyone else gets to deal with.

ummm..MiiSpace? AC unleashed? Myyapartment. God I just hope it is better than second life for PS3... Oh wait sorry I meant to say Home.. Oh well at least we wont hear about it today and not see it for 3 years like Home..

Don't pretend like you even know anything about Home, and I would like to see what Nintendo can do with online if anything at all. I gave up on Nintendo after twilight Princess and Super Mario Galaxies two boring games. Nintendos online probubly wont have a headset and what kind of games will you play animal crossing online?

Even if it ends up not having a headset, who cares? "Oh no! No headset! Now I can't talk to my fake internet/gaming friends like a woman!"
If it had a headset, I wouldn't use it. I am there to play games, not to gab like a teenage girl nor to listen to idiot so-called "hardcore gamers" swearing and putting down people they are playing against. Are you that much of a dolt that you would complain about it possibly not having a stupid headset? Obviously you are.
