Nintendo Power details Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

Two months after the controversial franchise was announced for Nintendo DS, gamers finally have more than a just a logo and name to digest.

Nintendo Power details Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

Nintendo spokeswomen Cammie Dunnaway reveals Chinatown Wars at E3 2008

According to a NeoGAF forum goer, transcribing the November issue of Nintendo Power, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is being billed as a "true GTA game," specifically for its sandbox gameplay, open-world environment, and gritty, mature rating.

Unlike console versions of the series, Chinatown wars will feature an isometric camera angle with 3D cel-shaded graphics and "tasteful" minigames, says the report. Additionally, the still-unnamed playable character will use a smart phone for email and missions, much like Niko from Grand Theft Auto IV.

What's more, missions are optimized for play on the go (read: they're shorter) and can quickly be restarted on failure, unlike GTA IV. The Wi-Fi enabled Chinatown Wars takes place in scaled-down version of Liberty City, but will still feature plenty of pedestrians and cars to mow down, says Nintendo Power.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is scheduled for release on Nintendo DS next February.

GTA on Nintendo Gameboy was garbage. PSP versions were good . Lets see how this one turns out on the DS.

I think that if GTA ever wants to come to Wii, they will base it off the success of the DS version. So heres to hoping the DS version works well.

Tasteful? Oh, sounds naughty.... lol

This game is sounding good so far, maybe it will be a DS must own game.

I work in a call centre, and I play my DS at work the most (between calls when it's not busy)... so the idea of going on a killing spree between calls is really appealing to me... no better form of stress relief. I'm looking forward to this game.

It will be nice to finally have a decent version of GTA thats portable. No I dont count the PSP versions because its not even a handheld. It only has 1 analog stick making games like GTA beyond hard to play. Its a portable movie player that just happens to support a few games that dont use the control scheme well. Hmm that sounds a little like another product on the market right now.

Looking forward to see what the DS version is all about. I played the hell out of the ones for the PSP and grew to like GTA 4.
