Tired of DS redesign rumors? Too bad! Here's another one about dual touchscreens in 2009.
You touch me anywhere.
The Nintendo DS is currently enjoying chart-topping success in all territories, but you wouldn't know that from all the rumor mongering going on about its potential on-again, off-again redesign.
Today, the rumors began anew following a post over at Kotaku.
Citing several "industry sources outside of Nintendo," Kotaku reported that Nintendo is working on an updated Nintendo DS with slightly bigger screens that will both feature touch. The rumored release date for such a device is an ambiguous "early next year."
This news, while fascinating, is nothing new. As GamePro has documented several times in the past, rumors have arisen constantly throughout 2007 and 2008 about the handheld, and every time Nintendo has met them with a stern denial. This was the case Wednesday as well, with GameIndustry reporting the Big N flat out branding any DS talk over at Kotaku as "rumor and speculation" at best.
And until we see kids, grandparents and cooking mamas with a dual touchscreen DS in hand, GamePro will treat it that way, too.

BOOO!
Go back to traditional Gaming Nintendo, stop the gimmicks! I want buttons to press, not microphones, not touch screens, and shoulder buttons that don't crap out on me!

They've already sold like 60 million DS', so unless it's a new system, dual touch screen wouldn't be a good idea.

QFT...I wouldn't buy this system expecting that in a year form launch they could release the DS2.

DS Lite have been pretty slow in Japan right? I think it needs dual widescreen displays and better graphics along with touch for both screens.

Lets pray its just a rumor. That could get to be a real pain controlling 2 touch screens and the buttons/D-pad. You can't deny it, you know alot of developers would do it.
