Best Game With No Genre Competition: Boom Blox
Some games have almost nothing in terms of competition in their genres. How many great racers can you count from this year? Are we really going to pick a "Best Music Game" when there's only two of note? For those kinds of games, we have this grab-bag of a category. The best game that lacked competition in its own genre was the divine EA-Spielberg production known as Boom Blox. As you can see in the results, it dominated a diverse selection of great games.
FINAL RESULTS:
Boom Blox: 67%
Rock Band 2: 11%
Mario Kart Wii: 11%
Spore: 11%
Best DLC: Bioshock challenge rooms
Too many companies have angered us of late by charging for content that should have been free... coughSoulCalibur4cough. Bioshock's unique and enjoyable challenge rooms were the cherry on top of the game's extremely professional PS3 port.
FINAL RESULTS:
Bioshock challenge rooms- 55%
Stardust Solo add-on pack- 36%
Foo Fighters "The Color and the Shape" in Rock Band- 9%
Best Boss: Revolver Ocelot
Even in his old age, Snake is still crushing terrorists in a game that somehow manages to improve upon the classic Metal Gear Solid formula. We'll avoid major spoilers, but needless to say, in Kojima's fourth MGS game, you finally get to literally beat your brother Liquid to death with your bare hands.
FINAL RESULTS:
Revolver Ocelot, Metal Gear Solid 4- 50%
Leviathan, Dead Space- 38%
Bad Girl, No More Heroes- 12%
Best New Character: Sackboy
Talk about your lopsided victories. There's a reason Sony's adopted Sackboy as its mascot--it's cute as the dickens. The other other vote-getter, geeky badass Travis Touchdown, couldn't even compete.
FINAL RESULTS:
Sackboy, LittleBigPlanet- 92%
Travis Touchdown, No More Heroes- 8%
Best New Weapon: Ripper
Again, another near-unanimous vote. Taking cues from Gears of War's epic chainsaw bayonet, Dead Space's Ripper shot razor blades at alien limbs, and smiles onto our faces.
FINAL RESULTS:
Ripper, Dead Space- 92%
Beam Katana, No More Heroes- 8%
Best Story: Fallout 3
Give Metal Gear Solid 4 credit--it tied up the many loose ends and complicated twists presented in the previous three titles. We gave the award to Fallout 3, though, since it did what a sequel should and told a great standalone story that caters to series newbs and vets alike.
FINAL RESULTS:
Fallout 3- 50%
Metal Gear Solid 4- 25%
Dead Space- 17%
Grand Theft Auto IV- 8%

Smash Bros not Wii game of the year? *shocked face*
I am seriously stunned by that. No More Hereos is a great game though, but I personally give it to Brawl, no question. Just my opinion though.

Chronotrigger should have one best rpg, brawl should have one best fighter. I was always more of a virtua fighter person than street fighter. Virtua fighter 2 was the best in the series

Maybe I'm being biased since I love Smash Bros. so much but it should also have gotten Fighting game of the year. Don't get me wrong I love me some Street Fighter, always have and I'm excited for IV.

Great choices GP but I'm kinda iffy about best RPG. No doubt Fallout 3 is a fantastic game (2nd in my choice by like 1/2 a point) but TO ME the best RPG of the year goes to The World Ends with You.

Resistance 2 a disappointment? I strongly disagree with that, but agree with most of the other stuff on this list. This year FTW!

IMO ps3 should be console of the year, buttttt to be fair both systems had a great year.
And I am just biased because I like Sony's exclusives more than MS's... plus, I was disappointed with Gears 2 (even though it was beautiful, I felt like I was playing Gears 1 alllllll over again), and Gears 1 is my all time favorite 360 game.
Oh well, it was a great year for everyone... well, I'm not sure about the wii, but everyone else should have enjoyed it. And next year looks even more amazing already.. Killzone 2, GOW3, Uncharted 2... oh holy crap I can't wait.
